GMKA helped the MOH of Ukraine to update the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Combat Trauma Care
The international non-profit organization Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA) assisted the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in preparing the first six clinical practice guidelines for Combat Trauma Care. They were approved by the relevant order on April 25, 2024.
The Global Medical Knowledge Alliance team has translated the guidelines to assist Ukrainian doctors in improving patient survival rates in both wartime and peacetime. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Health and GMKA, the following protocols have been aligned with international best practices:
- “Anesthesia for Trauma Patients“
- “Acute Extremity Compartment Syndrome“
- “Wartime Thoracic Injury“
- “War Wounds: Debridement and Irrigation“
- “High Bilateral Amputation“
- “Vascular Injury“
The Ukrainian translation of the Joint Trauma System clinical practice guidelines (TCCC CPG), which were developed by the Defense Health Agency (DHA, USA) and are considered one of the best materials for military surgeons, provides up-to-date and evidence-based clinical guidelines for the surgical care and treatment of combat-related injuries. Now Ukrainian doctors have free access to this valuable knowledge.
A team of GMKA doctors initiated this project at the end of 2022 and, as part of it, translated over 60 separate manuals on military surgery from English to Ukrainian. Most of them – 57 manuals – have already been published on the organization’s website.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine expressed gratitude to GMKA for its assistance, and Dr. Nelya Melnitchouk, the organization’s founder and CEO, highlighted the successful implementation of the project.
“This marks the successful completion of the project to adapt and translate manuals for military surgeons. It’s another significant achievement for the entire GMKA team!” she said.
According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, soon it will submit the next seven guidelines for Combat Trauma Care for public discussion. Overall, in 2024, it is planned to update and approve 20 more guidelines within the Joint Trauma System CPG.
In this project GMKA also collaborates with other public organizations, including the American-Ukrainian Medical Foundation (AUMF), the All-Ukrainian Resuscitation Council, and the Ukrainian Reformation Community. All clinical practice guidelines are freely accessible on the organizations’ websites: https://gmka.org and https://tccc.org.ua.
