Dr. John Kuckelman specializes in the surgical treatment of both benign and malignant conditions of the lungs, esophagus, chest wall, stomach, pleura, and diaphragm. He is skilled in traditional, minimally invasive, and robotic-assisted surgical techniques. His expertise also includes coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and aortic valve replacement procedures.
He earned his medical degree from Des Moines University in Iowa, where he also joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He completed his general surgery residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, followed by a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
In addition to his role at Augusta University, Dr. Kuckelman continues to serve as an active-duty thoracic surgeon in the U.S. Army with the rank of Major, currently stationed at Fort Gordon.
