Executive Director of GMKA Ukraine spoke at the Annual Meeting of the European Pancreatic Club
Inesa Huivaniuk, an oncologist at Kyiv Regional Oncological Center and Executive Director of GMKA Ukraine, took part in the European Pancreatic Club 2024, the largest conference on pancreatic health in Europe.
The conference brings together leading doctors and scientists in pancreatic care. This year, 800 professionals, including surgeons, biologists, gastroenterologists, endoscopists, radiologists, and others, gathered to exchange knowledge on diagnosing and treating pancreatic diseases.
“This prestigious conference changes its location annually. Before the full-scale invasion, it even took place in Kyiv, Ukraine. This year, it welcomed delegations not only from Europe but also from China and Japan. It’s a unique gathering of experts from various specializations related to pancreatic treatment,” said Inesa Huivaniuk.
During her presentation, Inesa Huivaniuk discussed the benefits of molecular testing for pancreatic cancer patients. In a debate format, she defended the viewpoint of a chemotherapist.
“Molecular testing, as a component of personalized cancer therapy, allows for the investigation of somatic and genetic mutations, enabling the selection of more specific therapies based on the detected mutations. Molecular testing is already included in international recommendations and guidelines. However, concrete solutions are still in the clinical research stage, and it is not currently economically feasible to conduct this testing for all patients,” explained Huivaniuk.
She concluded her speech by joining an international panel to discuss current practical approaches for treating and diagnosing pancreatic cancer.
