GMKA Enhances HealUA with AI Translation to Deliver Real-Time Global Expertise to Ukrainian Physicians
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s healthcare system has faced devastation on a scale unprecedented in modern Europe. More than 2,250 attacks on medical facilities have destroyed hospitals, disrupted essential services, and pushed clinicians far beyond their limits. Amid constant shelling, mass-casualty events, evacuations, and chronic shortages of supplies and staff, timely expert guidance has become nothing short of lifesaving.
In this environment, innovative solutions like HealUA—a secure, physician-to-physician consultation app developed by the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA)—became indispensable. HealUA connects Ukrainian clinicians working under extreme pressure with leading medical specialists around the world, enabling rapid peer to peer consultation on complex cases, real-time decision support, and the exchange of critical expertise. At a moment when every minute matters, HealUA helps ensure that even in the midst of war, patients can receive the best possible care.
Recently, GMKA has further enhanced HealUA with a built-in AI translator, removing language barriers and expanding opportunities for real-time international collaboration.
“HealUA already connects more than 4,500 users across 37 countries. Our goal is to ensure Ukrainian doctors have access to the best global medical practices while sharing their own expertise worldwide. Language is no longer a barrier—physicians can now communicate, collaborate, and collectively improve patient care,” says Kateryna Potapova, MD, PhD, neurologist, Co-Executive Director of GMKA Ukraine, and Project Lead for HealUA.
Powered by Google Gemini, the new translation engine is designed specifically to understand complex medical terminology, abbreviations, and clinical context. It translates cases, comments, and clinician-to-clinician communication into the user’s preferred language with exceptional accuracy and sensitivity to professional nuance. All data is processed through secure, encrypted systems and adheres fully to international privacy and data-protection standards, ensuring that clinicians can collaborate with confidence.
“There’s no need to search for the right words or worry about missing details. Our intelligent AI translator ensures doctors can share knowledge freely—wherever they are,” explains Taras Ivanykovych, Customer Success Manager at HealUA.
Through HealUA, Ukrainian physicians can consult directly with experts from world-leading institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School, and MD Anderson Cancer Center—while sharing their own frontline insights with the global medical community. This two-way exchange strengthens international medical collaboration and directly improves outcomes for patients facing urgent and complex cases.
GMKA created HealUA to support doctors in Ukraine’s most underserved and high-pressure environments, helping them connect securely with global expertise. The vision extends far beyond Ukraine: a world where every physician—from war zones to refugee camps to rural clinics—has instant access to trusted medical knowledge when every second matters. The impact of this work has been recognized globally, with HealUA nominated for the Clinton Global Initiative in 2025.
