Dr. Inesa Huivaniuk, surgical oncologist and Executive Director of the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA), and Dr. Darya Kizub, medical oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Director of Oncology at GMKA, attended the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2025, held in Chicago, Illinois.
The AACR Annual Meeting is one of the most influential scientific gatherings in oncology. Each year, it brings together researchers, clinicians, patients, and advocates to explore cutting-edge developments in cancer prevention, research, and treatment.
Alongside more than 21,000 participants from 85 countries, GMKA’s representatives took part in a robust program that featured over 200 clinical trial presentations, more than 700 expert speakers from 30 countries, and 24 Phase III studies that are already shaping clinical practice and advancing the future of cancer care.
We were able to learn about the future of targeted cancer treatments including cellular therapies directed as specific growth pathways, novel approaches to dosing tried and true chemotherapies to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy, strategies for combining both new and old cancer drugs to synergize their action against cancers that are especially aggressive and have poor outcomes,” said Daria Kizub.
During the conference, the GMKA team engaged with international colleagues, exchanged expertise, and explored global oncology initiatives. They also identified tools and approaches to help accelerate cancer research in Ukraine.
As a representative of both Ukraine and GMKA, it was incredibly meaningful to be part of this event. Ukraine is contributing to global progress in oncology, and our researchers and clinicians are advancing cancer diagnostics and treatment alongside peers from around the world. We connected with global leaders and organizations who sincerely support Ukraine and are eager to collaborate on joint projects. Personally, this experience reaffirmed my commitment to a specialty where lifelong learning, scientific evidence, and patient care go hand in hand,” shared Dr. Inesa Huivaniuk.
Despite the ongoing war, GMKA continues to champion initiatives for healthcare professionals and patients, promote evidence-based medical knowledge, and support cancer research and education in Ukraine.
