Galyna Shabat, Patiens Education Director of GMKA, was involved in the EFS Meeting in Italy
Galyna Shabat, MD, MSc, PhD — Director, Patient Education, GMKA, participated in the 3rd Annual European Foregut Society Meeting held in Milan, Italy from 1st-3rd November.
During presentation Dr. Shabat discussed the role of the “Global Medical Knowledge Alliance” (GMKA) in enhancing the accessibility and quality of the education for Ukrainian doctors and patients, as well as in providing first medical aid in case of injuries.
“Quality education holds an immense significance in preparing the next generation of doctors, particularly surgeons and endoscopists. Nowadays, GMKA offers numerous opportunities for young specialists, such as resources available on the organisation’s website, online courses, educational programs, forums, congresses and more,” Galyna Shabat said.
In addition, Dr. Shabat shared her own ideas and experiences during EFS Meeting on raising medical awareness among patients.
“A very important message I tried to convey to those present is about significance of patient education. Patients should be aware of what to expect before surgical interventions, as well as the principles behind surgical decisions, that could enhance their quality of life”, she said.
In fact, around 200 doctors from 18 countries participated in the 3rd Annual European Foregut Society Meeting.
All those who commented on Dr. Shabat’s presentation highly praised GMKA and her personal dedication to the development of Ukrainian medicine and educational projects for both doctors and patients.
Concluding her presentation, Galyna Shabat extended gratitude to the founder of GMKA — Nelya Melnitchouk, Prof. Luigi Bonavina, all Ukrainian physicians and patients for their tireless collective efforts to improve the quality of education and healthcare in Ukraine.
Galyna Shabat, MD, MSc, PhD — Director, Patient Education in GMKA. She is board-certified general surgeon and endoscopist in Italy. She graduated from Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University (IFNMU) with MD degree. She was assistant professor and practicing surgeon at IFNMU. She completed fellowships at IRCAD and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
