Delirium is a preventable hospital-acquired complication that increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. All high-risk patients, including adults over 65, should receive evidence-based, multicomponent delirium-prevention interventions delivered by an interprofessional team.
This poster, developed by the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto, highlights six proven strategies to prevent delirium in older adults. These are based on the published research of Dr. Sharon Inouye: A Multicomponent Intervention to Prevent Delirium in Hospitalized Older Patients (Inouye et al., 1999).
